Apps; Zest

I want to talk to you about one of my biggest problems; recipe storage. I use several different sites to find recipes; Pinterest, Bloglovin’ and of course random emails being sent to my inbox and googling. The problem is that I can’t store them all in one handy place for free and to be honest, I don’t want to hand-write all the recipes I find into a book.
I have scoured the internet for one place to keep them all – I’ve looked at apps (free ones tend to have a limit on how many you can store before you need to pay) and some of the prices for a years subscription are crazy!
Enter ZEST. An app for your Iphone and you can also install it on your computer and have it synced. The best thing? The App is FREE! The only thing you have to pay for is if you decide to have the app on your computer – this is £14.99 for the year to store 2500 recipes which I think is a bit of a bargain when you look at some of the other apps and pricing out there.

Anyway, want to see what it looks like? Well, here’s the main menu;
I’ll talk you through each section, but it’s very simple to use and very self-explanatory.
Recipes– will take you to all the recipes you have save – you can view this in a list view or card view. The difference being that in List view, you can see the tags you have allocated to each recipe, whereas in card view you can see the title and a large image.
Tags – Shows you all of the tags you have created – you can add as many as you like to the list and then you can select a tag on this menu to filter how you like (you can also select multiple tags to narrow down your selection).
Import from Web – This is my favourite section, say you have a link to a recipe that you want to keep, but aren’t interested in visiting the site again, you can paste in the URL, save the recipe. If there’s a website you regularly use and would like to save then you have the option to save this to a favourites list and you can check back any time to add more recipes from the site.
Importing – This isn’t compatible with all sites, but seems to be compatible with most that I’ve saved from, I’ve used an example here from one of my favourite sites; Budget Bytes. As you can see, I’ve loaded the URL for the recipe, I select ‘Import Recipe’ and ZEST goes to work collecting the info from the site. You can see the little boxes on the left-hand side, you can check through these to make sure the details are ok, but I’ve grown to trust the app.

All you need to do is select any tags or add any tags that you want to use to find this recipe again, then press save. The recipe will appear in the recipes section and will contain all of the detail you just saved! You can edit, delete or share it at any time and it’s now saved ready for you to use!
I hope this is useful for any of you recipe addicts out there who have been having the same problems, and if you have any other tips for me then let me know in the comments below.
